Usain Bolt, once again labelled the Fastest Man on Earth, will be assessed and adjusted before he hits the track. Coincidence? Perhaps. But who’s to say that receiving joint manipulation isn’t giving him the edge over his competitors…
What is Chiropractic?
The Chiropractic profession is still a fairly new profession that is becoming more and more popular as an alternative health care option. The profession deals with the evaluation and conservative treatment of NeuroMusculoSkeletal (NMS) disorders. These disorders have a potential to dysfunction the locomotor system which could lead to impaired functioning.
The use of manual procedures, such as adjusting where an articular ‘crack’ might be heard, is the main form of treatment. I know you are all thinking does this hurt… the answer is quite simply no, the ‘pop’ you hear is just the bubbles of gas popping in the fluid as the pressure is relieved. This allows you to move more easily and comfortably and decreases any pressure on surrounding structures.
At the London 2012 Olympic Games, for the first time, the British Chiropractic Association (BCA) Chiropractors attended the Athletes village as part of the core medical services offered within the Polyclinic for athletes. This was again mirrored at this years’ Rio Olympics.
All of this said, it doesn’t matter what your ability or sporting ambitions are, whether your goals are to be able to carry the shopping to the car or achieve a new PB time in a 10km race, Chiropractic care could well and truly help!
